Buying a luxury food gift online is always slightly different from buying one in person. You can’t open the box, see the baklava up close or taste a piece before deciding, so you’re relying on the photographs and information the seller provides.
A beautiful box is obviously part of the appeal, but there’s more to a good baklava gift than the packaging. The ingredients, freshness, variety and the way it’s packed all matter too.
If you’re thinking about ordering a luxury baklava gift box online, here are some of the things we’d look for.
Look Beyond the Word “Handmade”
Handmade sounds reassuring, but it’s more useful when a bakery actually explains what it means in practice.
At The Baklava Box, our baklava is prepared and baked in the UK. We make our products fresh to order and pack orders by hand rather than simply taking finished gift boxes from long term storage.
That’s important to us because when someone orders one of our boxes as a gift, the experience when it’s opened matters just as much as how it looked on the website.
Check What’s Actually in the Box
It’s easy for premium packaging to grab your attention first, but take a minute to look at the ingredients too.
Check which nuts are being used rather than relying on descriptions such as “mixed nuts”. Pistachio, walnut and almond can produce very different flavours and textures. It’s also worth checking the pastry, syrup and type of fat used, particularly if you’re buying for someone with dietary requirements.
Good allergen information should also be easy to find rather than something you have to search for.
We provide ingredient and allergen information on our product pages so customers can check the relevant product before ordering.
Variety Makes a Difference

One of the nicest things about giving baklava as a gift is the variety you can get in a single box.
Our premium and assorted ranges include different shapes, textures and nut combinations, including pieces such as Masariya, Balouriya and pistachio fingers. Some have a delicate bite, others are more nut filled, and visually they make a mixed box much more interesting when it’s opened.
If you already know someone’s favourite, choosing a box around that flavour makes sense. If you don’t, a mixed selection is usually a safer choice and gives them several different pieces to try.
It’s particularly useful when the box is going to a family or an office where several people may be sharing it.
Presentation Shouldn’t Stop at the Photograph
A gift box needs to look good online, but more importantly it needs to arrive looking good.
We individually wrap our baklava pieces and pack our orders by hand. It takes more time, but it helps protect the different pieces during delivery and means we can check the presentation as the order is being packed.
Our boxes are designed to be suitable for gifting as they are. Customers can also add a personal message at checkout and we’ll include it as a printed gift note with the order.
We don’t currently offer handwritten notes or additional gift wrapping.
Choosing the Right Size
Don’t concentrate too much on the number of pieces when comparing baklava boxes. Different varieties can vary quite a lot in size and shape, which is why baklava is often sold by weight.
A smaller selection may be plenty for one person or a couple. If you’re sending something for a family, workplace or gathering, a larger box gives everyone more choice.
For something a little different, our bundles combine baklava with other sweets such as Turkish delight, maamoul or petit four and can work particularly well when the gift is going to be shared.
Check our current product pages for the available sizes and prices rather than relying on prices quoted in older articles.
Freshness Matters
Freshness can easily be overlooked when you’re concentrating on choosing the nicest looking gift box.
We make our products fresh to order at The Baklava Box rather than keeping finished gift boxes in long term storage waiting for an order.
Once it arrives, storage matters too. Our baklava should be kept at room temperature in line with the storage information supplied with the product. Putting baklava straight into the fridge can affect the texture of the pastry.
Don’t Leave Delivery Until the Last Minute
If you’re ordering for a birthday, celebration, festival or another particular date, give yourself some breathing room.
At The Baklava Box we dispatch Monday to Friday and don’t dispatch on weekends or bank holidays. Courier delivery times are estimates, so we’d always recommend allowing some extra time rather than arranging a gift around an exact delivery day.
Royal Mail Tracked 48 may include Saturday delivery.
For standard online orders, delivery is free when the order value is over £50 excluding VAT. Orders below the threshold have a £4.49 delivery charge including VAT.
Please check our Delivery page before ordering for the latest information on dispatch and delivery.
Customer Reviews Tell You Things Photographs Can’t
Reviews are worth spending a few minutes on, particularly when you’re buying food for somebody else.
Rather than looking only at the overall rating, read what customers actually say. Comments about freshness, taste, packaging and how the box looked when it arrived can give you a much better idea of what you’re likely to receive.
Buying for Someone Who Is Vegan?
Don’t assume all baklava is made in the same way. Traditional recipes can contain ingredients that aren’t suitable for everyone, so always check the individual product information.
We have a vegan baklava selection made without dairy or eggs, so there is still an option if you’re buying for someone who follows a vegan diet.
Full ingredients and allergen information should always be checked on the relevant product page before ordering.
When Does a Luxury Baklava Box Make a Good Gift?
We’ve seen our boxes bought for all sorts of reasons, birthdays, celebrations, thank you gifts, religious festivals and sometimes simply because somebody wants to send something nice.
Baklava also works well as a shared gift. A mixed box can be sent to an office, team or client rather than buying separate gifts for several people.
We’ve covered the business side of this in more detail in our guide to client and corporate baklava gifts.
Choosing a Luxury Baklava Gift Box Online

Ultimately, the word “luxury” on a product page doesn’t tell you very much on its own.
Look at what’s actually in the box. Check the ingredients, how it’s prepared, the variety you’re getting, how it’s packed, what other customers say and how the seller handles delivery.
At The Baklava Box, we bake our baklava fresh in the UK, prepare products fresh to order and pack our orders by hand.
If you’re looking for a gift, browse our baklava selections and choose the box that feels right for the person receiving it. If you’re not sure which one to go for, you’re also welcome to contact us and we’ll help.
FAQs
What makes a baklava gift box feel luxurious?
There’s no single thing that makes a box luxurious. Good ingredients, freshness, variety, presentation and thoughtful packaging all contribute. We’d look at those things rather than simply choosing the most expensive box.
Is more expensive baklava always better?
No. Price alone doesn’t tell you much about quality. Look at the ingredients, quantity, freshness, presentation and customer feedback before comparing different boxes.
How can I tell whether baklava ordered online will arrive fresh?
Look for clear information about how the baklava is prepared, packed and dispatched. The seller should also provide sensible storage and delivery information.
Can I buy a luxury vegan baklava gift box?
Yes. The Baklava Box offers a vegan baklava selection made without dairy or eggs. Please check the individual product page for full ingredients and allergen information.
Can I send the box directly as a gift?
Yes. You can have an order delivered directly to the recipient and add a personal message at checkout, which we’ll include as a printed gift note.
Should baklava be kept in the fridge?
Our baklava should be stored at room temperature according to the storage instructions provided. Refrigeration can affect the texture of the pastry.
